Moose (Alces alces)

The Weight of Grace

In Scandinavia, the moose is often called the “king of the forest.” Its imposing antlers and proud stance embody strength, wisdom, and independence. Despite its massive size, it moves with remarkable calm and grace. It is a symbol of dignity and balance.

Although I only noticed it during a trip through Scandinavia, I saw numerous severely damaged cars near garages: crushed roofs and shattered windshields, as if a giant had stepped on them. The cause, I learned, was the moose. Because of its long legs, a collision typically strikes low, causing the animal’s full weight to crash down onto the windshield—often fatal for both human and animal.

With my paper sculpture, I aim to honour this seemingly heavy giant by capturing its true nature: light, elegant, and quietly majestic.
